Economic reforms must continue to address the problem of unemployment.

Economic reforms/de-control of market must continue to address the problem of unemployment.

Let us discuss employment or if you prefer unemployment. We have to find ways to reduce unemployment in India. It does not matter if it is in the agricultural or industrial sector, we must find ways to reduce unemployment. There may be a surplus of farmers in India. If there is a surplus of farmers in India, then there is a surplus of farmers in India. A surplus is a surplus. Some farmers may have to give up agriculture completely. The more efficient farmers may be able to survive the competition. We can no longer depend on agriculture to give employment to Indians because there is a surplus of farmers; we have to find new sources of employment for Indians. There is a surplus of farmers in the agricultural sector, and so it is time to move to another sector which has a shortage. When there is a surplus, you must move to a shortage. There may be some good news. Even a journey of a thousand miles starts with one step. The next step for India may be Special Economic Zones (SEZ). Try SEZ’s. The nation has to shift to SEZ’s to give employment opportunities to Indians. The next employment opportunities would be in SEZ’s. The new hope is in SEZ’s. SEZ’s will become the new employers. Any political party that does not support SEZ’s must be naïve. We will wait and see how India handles herself.

It does not matter which political ideology you subscribe to- leftist or rightist- because if there is a surplus of farmers in India, then there is a surplus of farmers in India. It does not matter which political party you belong to because if there is a surplus of farmers in India, then there is a surplus of farmers in India. A surplus is a surplus, irrespective of which political party you vote for. If there is a surplus of farmers in the agricultural sector, then it is time to move to another sector which has a shortage. When there is a surplus it is time to move to an area of shortage. Try SEZ’s. Trying SEZ’s is better than doing nothing. Something is better than nothing. Try SEZ’s.

It does not matter which political ideology you subscribe to- leftist or rightist- because if there is unemployment in India, then there is unemployment in India. It does not matter which political party you belong to because if people need jobs in India, then people need jobs in India. A shortage of jobs is a shortage of jobs, irrespective of which political party you vote for. If there is a shortage of jobs in one sector, then it is time to move to another sector which has a demand for jobs. When there is a shortage of jobs it is time to move to another area where there is demand for jobs. Try SEZ’s. Trying SEZ’s is better than doing nothing. Something is better than nothing. Try SEZ’s.

It does not matter which political ideology you subscribe to- leftist or rightist- because if there is unemployment in India, then the electorate will turn to the local politicians and demand jobs. It does not matter which political party you belong to because if people need jobs in India, then the electorate will turn to the local politicians and ask for jobs. Try SEZ’s.

A market economy is always restructuring and may have areas of shortages and areas of surpluses. There may be areas where there may be a shortage of manpower and areas where there is a surplus of manpower. There may be areas where there may be high growth and areas where there is slow or no growth. There are always surpluses and shortages. When there is a surplus of labor, then you must move to an area of shortage of labor. Today it seems that the Special Economic Zones (SEZ) are the new area of growth inside India. So it follows that we want India’s manpower to be willing to relocate to areas of growth such as SEZ’s. So it follows that we want India’s manpower to be willing to relocate. India’s manpower must be willing to move. India’s manpower must be willing to travel. The bottom-line is that we want India’s manpower to be willing to relocate, move, and travel inside India. The bottom-line is that there should be no resistance to relocate, move, and travel inside India. The bottom-line is that there should be no opposition to relocate, move, and travel inside India. The future Indian will be the relocatable Indian. The future Indian will be the mobile Indian. The future Indian will be the traveling Indian. In a market economy, we should let the market decide how and where India’s manpower will be located and relocated.

The politicians in India should get into the habit of asking the electorate to move to other locations inside India where there are better prospects available, which is what some Indians have been doing for decades. The politicians in India should get into the habit of asking the unemployed to move to other locations inside India where there is work available, which is what some Indians have been doing for decades. The politicians in India should get into the habit of asking the made redundant to move to other locations inside India where there are opportunities available, which is what some Indians have been doing for decades. The politicians in India should get into the habit of asking the laid off to move to other locations inside India where there is a shortage of labor, which is what some Indians have been doing for decades. Yes, we should let the market economy decide how and where India's manpower will be located and relocated.

Let the market decide for itself. The market works best when it is sufficiently de-controlled by politicians. The market is always changing. We are the market. The market is composed of buying and selling goods, services and ideas. It is hard (in fact, impossible) to keep track of the market because it is composed of billions of buyers and sellers world-wide. Business cycles are hard to predict. There are always surpluses and shortages in the market. Surpluses sometimes become shortages over time; and shortages, over time, sometimes become surpluses too. If you move from an area of surplus to an area of shortages, you would be doing yourself and the market a favor. Yes, the market is always changing. Even if the politicians do not recommend moving from one location inside India to another location inside India, if you are jobless, you would be well advised to move to other locations inside India where there are better prospects available; and as much as possible try not to leave India to look for work because India may need your services. Even if the politicians do not recommend moving from one location inside India to another location inside India, if you are unemployed, you would be well advised to move to other locations inside India where there is work available; and as much as possible try not to leave India to look for work because India may need your services. Even if the politicians do not recommend moving from one location inside India to another location inside India, if you are laid off, you would be well advised to move to other locations inside India where there is a shortage of labor; and as much as possible try not to leave India to look for work because India may need your services. Even if the politicians do not recommend moving from one location inside India to another location inside India, if you are made redundant, you would be well advised to move to other locations inside India where there are better opportunities available; and as much as possible try not to leave India to look for work because India may need your services. Let the market decide for itself. In a market economy, we should let the market decide how and where India’s manpower will be located and relocated. The politicians must de-control the market.

Let the market decide. In a market economy, we should let the market decide how and where India’s manpower will be located and relocated.

Some employees prefer to work for the same employer for decades; other employees prefer to work for several employers in a lifetime. Everybody is different. Some employers prefer to employ people who have worked at different jobs before, while other employers do not. Different employers are different. Let us suppose you were a carpenter. Your work environment is a workplace and also a school. As you work, you also learn. Please do learn as much as possible from your work environment. After you have learned as much as possible, if you want to get ahead, you can start looking for work at another location. If your employer does not pay you well then he will pay a heavy price when you finally leave and relocate to another job. Even if you were working as a carpenter, and then relocate and work in a kitchen, you may be an asset because you may be able to put carpentry and kitchen together. Even if you were working as a truck driver and now work in a plantation, you may be an asset because you may be able to put plantation and motor mechanics together. Later on, if you decide to work in a kitchen, then you are still an asset because you can put motor mechanics, plantation, and kitchen together. There may be a shortage in the market of people who can put motor mechanics, plantation, and kitchen together. Always remember that the work environment is also a school. When you work as an employee, you learn as much as possible. After you learn as much as possible, you can start your own company and start employing people. So the purpose of becoming an employee is to become an employer eventually. Whether your employer approves it or not, you have to find a way to turn your work environment into a school for you. Yes, we should let the market decide how and where India’s manpower will be located and relocated; and as much as possible try not to leave India to look for work because India may need your services.

It is all about jobs, jobs, jobs. If you go to Mumbai/Bombay or New Delhi, I bet you that there are migrant workers from many other parts of India. These migrant workers are also voters and can eventually vote in the Mumbai or New Delhi elections. What can migrant workers give? Migrant workers can vote. Let us suppose that there are hypothetically three states inside India. Let us suppose that they are named State A, State B, and State C. Let us suppose that State A has rapid economic growth, and States B and C have slow growth and high unemployment. It is possible that workers from States B and C will find their way into State A to seek employment. So the migrant workers inside State A become an asset to politicians in State A because they can vote for politicians in State A. The politicians from State A will be the net gainers. I tell you that if you are unemployed and if you wait for the local politician to create jobs, then you may end up waiting for ever. If you have to move from State B or State C to State A to seek employment, then you have to move. Irrespective of what the politicians say, if you have to move, then you have to move. It is not good to rely too much on politicians. It is all about jobs, jobs, jobs. Please tell all your friends to make plans to move to another state inside India in order to seek employment. Please tell all your friends not to depend on politicians and that it is better to relocate to another state to be employed. In a market economy, we should let the market decide how and where India’s manpower will be located and relocated; and as much as possible try not to leave India to look for work because India may need your services. In any case, several Indians have been moving from one state inside India to another state inside India for better opportunities for decades.

Different jobs will break you in differently, both mentally and physically. There is a difference between working in a plantation and, say, riding a horse. If you start working in a plantation, then you would initially have difficulty because it will use certain muscles in your body which you have probably never used in your life before. For many people the difficulty is temporary, not permanent. Soon you would be broken in, both mentally and physically, and you would feel at rest with your plantation work. Next, if you switch to riding a horse, immediately you would have problems, again for the same reason. The reason is that horse riding uses different muscles in your body which you probably have never used before. Pretty soon you would be broken in, both mentally and physically, into horse riding and you would be at rest with horse riding. It is all about being broken in. The important thing to remember is that are employers willing to have patience while the new employee is being broken in. Every employer would want employees to be profitable on day one. Are you kidding? You have to give the employee some time to be broken in before he can be profitable to the employer. It is like the theory of the egg and the chicken. Which comes first, the chicken or the egg? The point is that without the new employee being given the chance to do the work for a while, he cannot get experience. Employers want to hire experienced workers. But how can you get the experience if you have not done the job before. We need the employer to show some understanding and patience while the new employee is broken in. It has to be impressed to employers that either the employer or fellow workers have to train new workers; and while the training goes on, the employer has to show understanding and patience. I wonder how good the employer was when he started working. I am sure he too had to be broken in before he became useful. The market economy restructures and restructures over time. There may be numerous reasons for a person to relocate to a different part of India. Sometimes the relocated person may take the same kind of job and some times a different kind of job. The new employee must learn his/her job quickly and be useful to the employer. What should the politicians do about this? Nothing. The less the politicians use enforcement in the economy, the better it is. Let the market decide for itself. The people are smart enough and will figure out how to relocate, when to relocate, and where to relocate. In fact, relocating from one state inside India to another state inside India for better opportunities has been going on for decades. No attempt should be made to discourage people from one state to relocate to another state.

What should the politicians do about the economy? The people are not stupid. The people do know how to take care of themselves. The people do not need the politicians to tell them what to do. I think politicians should take a break. I think politicians should stay home. Why don’t the politicians mind their own business and leave the market economy alone? The less the politicians do, the more the market economy can do; and the more the politicians do, the less the market economy can do. As much as possible we have to get rid of all these government monopolies. I think politicians should stay home; and there are lots of things the politicians can do at home. The politicians can watch television at home. The politicians can watch movies on DVD at home. The politicians can play ping-pong with their family members at home. The politicians can learn yoga exercises at home. The politicians can read a fiction story book at home. The politicians can take a nap at home. There are lots of things the politicians can do at home. In a free market economy, mobility of labor is an important factor. The Indian people do know how to move around and seek employment. No attempt should be made to discourage people from one state to relocate to another state. Let the market decide for itself. The people are smart enough and will figure out how to relocate, when to relocate, and where to relocate. In fact, relocating from one state inside India to another state inside India for better opportunities has been going on for decades.

Both the Christian Bible and Mahatma Gandhi do recommend living in a property-less commune. Undoubtedly it is a failed attempt. Mahatma Gandhi was a barrister by training. He and his peers had never studied modern economics. He and his peers had a poor understanding of economics. Today’s world is different. We have to take decisions based on today’s realities.

With the agricultural sector experiencing a surplus and the SEZ’s opening up for employment, hopefully India would grow stronger economically in the coming decades and at the same time never forgetting that she is the nation that gave Mahatma Gandhi to the world. Mahatma Gandhi would be remembered for his impeccable strong moral character and his tireless efforts to create peace and unity among the various communities. We Indians have reasons to be proud of Mahatma Gandhi: he would be remembered for his social and political work; he is indeed a man of character. The land of Mahatma Gandhi will one day see fewer shortages and rationing. I am sure Mahatma Gandhi, being a man of strong moral character, would be opposed to an economy of shortages and rationing. People like Mahatma Gandhi wanted to create self-reliant villages inside India without international trade in order to reduce shortages and rationing. People like Mahatma Gandhi wanted to create self-reliant and self-sufficient villages inside India without international trade, which has nothing to do with a market economy. Mahatma Gandhi and his peers had a poor understanding of modern economics. Mahatma Gandhi’s economics will never happen in a thousand years. The reality is that shortages and rationing are reduced through a free market economy with international trade. There are many nations in this world where shortages and rationing have been reduced to a minimum as a result of a free market economy with international trade. When shortages and rationing in India are reduced to a minimum through a free market economy with international trade, Mahatma Gandhi’s dream for India would have been realized. Ideally, there would be no shortages and no rationing in the whole world.

Jai Bharat Mataji.
